MODERN PROPHECY

In this period of ten years, there will come to completion the time of the great tribulation, which has been foretold to you in Holy Scripture, before the second coming of Jesus. The Holy Mass is the daily Sacrifice, the pure oblation which is offered to the Lord everywhere, from the rising of the sun to its going down...The Sacrifice of the Mass renews that which was accomplished by Jesus on Calvary...And thus, the celebration of Holy Mass will be suppressed. In this abolition of the daily Sacrifice consists the horrible sacrilege accomplished by the Antichrist, which will last about three and a half years, namely, 1290 days (MMP, #485, Dec 31, 1992).
ACTUAL EVENTS
The "period of ten years" since Mary's 1988 message indicates that the Antichrist would achieve the abomination of desolation by the year 1998. For the Antichrist to accomplish that, he must take the place of the Pope - the servant of the Red Dragon supplanting the servant of the Woman and her Son. In 1998 Pope Saint John Paul II appointed 2 secret Cardinals, we assume one reason being in case the papacy and Cardinals were attacked (we are told in other messages that the Pope knew what was coming). The Captain of the Swiss Guard, that group charged with protecting the Pope, and his wife were assassinated May 4 by a disgruntled Swiss Guard who later committed suicide; that was a sign that Satan was getting close to his goal. Prayers and fasting were offered 24 hours a day, seven days a week in Rome from May through June. The Pope bravely rode in an uncovered motorcar around St. Peter's Square twice, on May 13, 1998, the anniversary of the attempt on his life in the same place in 1981. The Pope made it through those crucial months, and extra years were given to him to lead the flock until 2005, and the daily Sacrifice was preserved! Among the Pope's first words when he visited St. Louis, America in January, 1999 were, "Thank you for your sacrifices". Years of messages from Jesus and the Virgin Mary in various places paid off in this great victory: the reign of the Antichrist and the Abomination of Desolation was delayed or possibly cancelled in 1998. Update 2022: the current Pope has abolished the Holy Tridentine Mass but thanks to God we still have the "Ordinary Mass" without which the world would be much worse off. We may already be living in a mitigated Tribulation period!

ANCIENT PROPHECY
From the time that the daily sacrifice is abolished and the abomination that causes desolation is set up, there will be 1,290 days (Daniel 12:11)
So when you see standing in the holy place 'the abomination that causes desolation,' spoken of through the prophet Daniel (let the reader understand)...For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been from the beginning of the world until now, no, and never will be (Mat 24:15,21)
Let no one deceive you in any way; for that day (the Second Coming of Jesus Christ) will not come, unless the rebellion comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of perdition, who opposes and exalts himself against every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, proclaiming himself to be God (2Thess 2:3-4)
